Techni - Grip

Techni-Grip is a revolutionary work holding system that utilizes two proven work-holding concepts, “Pin & Hole” for consistent, positive location and “The Dovetail” for exceptional gripping strength.  Using less than 25 foot pounds of pressure on a mere .125” of excess material a part can be held in precise position even in the deepest of cuts. The “free floating” dovetail clamp assemblies hold the part down firmly on top the locating pins keeping the part from sliding along the dovetails or coming loose during the machining process.  In addition, the locating pins allow for positive location and relocation of the part should the part require rework, inspection, or additional manufacturing operations.

Raw stock preparation is simple, standardized and can be performed without using an expensive CNC machine.  All stock is prepared based on the center of the stock.  Simply mill 30° dovetails .125” down from the face of the stock on the opposing edges that are intended to lie along the clamping axis of the part.  Then bore two .500 +/- .001 diameter holes .125” deep from the face of the stock.  The holes should be located on 1.375” centers parallel and in-line to the dovetail cuts.  (See Figure #1 Prepared for 4th Axis or veritcal machining)

How it works

Mill 30° dovetails .125" down from the face of the stock on the opposing edges that are intended to lie along the clamping axis of the part.
Bore two .500 +/- .001 diameter holes .125" deep from the face of the stock. The holes should be located on 1.375" centers.
Elevate locating pins by removing the locating pins to be utilized.
Place spacer in locating pin hole and tighten.
Open dovetail clamp assemblies with a 3/8" Allen Wrench.
Line up the .500 holes over the raised locating pins.
Set the prepared stock flat on the "Techni-Grip" with the locating pins in the holes of the prepared stock.
Tighten the dovetail clamp assemblies.
